The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, ketone and quinone exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest ketone and quinone supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with an 11% share.

In China, ketone and quinone exports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+11.7% per year) and Japan (+3.0% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the amount of ketones and quinones imported in Asia-Pacific surged to X tons, increasing by 18% against the previous year. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +87.2% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

China was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 54% of total imports. India (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by South Korea (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 27% share of total imports. Japan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+13.5%), South Korea (+4.8%), India (+4.0%), Japan (+1.7%) and Indonesia (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +13.5% from 2012-2021. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. China (+2.7 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -2.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest ketone and quinone importing markets in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), India ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 62% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +10.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
