Exports by Country
China was the key exporter of labels of paper or paperboard in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 62% of total exports in 2021. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (4.7%). Vietnam (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+21.5%), Thailand (+3.3%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.9%) and South Korea (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +21.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-1.8%) and Singapore (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+8 p.p.) and Vietnam (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -5.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest paper label supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +8.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (-1.2% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented roughly 42% of total imports in 2021. Indonesia (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), India (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons). All these countries together held near 32% share of total imports. Malaysia (X tons), Japan (X tons), Australia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), China (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Cambodia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Bangladesh, China, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, the Philippines, Australia and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 47%.
Among the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +20.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, declining by -8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 7.4%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
