In value terms, lysine exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 80% of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by South Korea (9.2%).
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the lysine and its esters, and salts thereof exports, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Korea (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Indonesia (-5.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. For the seventh year in a row, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in overseas purchases of lysine and its esters, and salts thereof, which increased by 2.8% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, lysine imports surged to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Japan (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Australia (X tons) represented the major importer of lysine and its esters, and salts thereof in Asia-Pacific, generating 87% of total import.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lysine and its esters, and salts thereof in Asia-Pacific, comprising 22% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 11% share.
In India, lysine imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+3.3% per year) and Thailand (+8.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
