In value terms, finishing paper machinery exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 84% of total exports in 2021. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Japan (X units). All these countries together held near 15% share of total exports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machinery for finishing paper or paperboard exports, with a CAGR of +27.4% from 2012 to 2021. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Taiwan (Chinese) (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+62 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Japan (-7.4 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-48.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest finishing paper machinery supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.
In China, finishing paper machinery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Taiwan (Chinese) (-6.5% per year) and Japan (+3.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -16.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, finishing paper machinery imports in Asia-Pacific soared to X units, picking up by 34% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, finishing paper machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The purchases of the nine major importers of machinery for finishing paper or paperboard, namely India, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese), Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +14.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest finishing paper machinery importing markets in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), India ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 34%.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +14.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 9.2%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while Malaysia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
