China dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 85% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), comprising a 9.2% share of total exports. Japan (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard exports, with a CAGR of +19.1% from 2012 to 2021. The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 5.7% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, paper making machinery imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Vietnam (X units), distantly followed by India (X units), China (X units), South Korea (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Japan (X units) were the largest importers of machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard, together achieving 72% of total imports. Thailand (X units), Bangladesh (X units), Australia (X units), Malaysia (X units), New Zealand (X units), Cambodia (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +30.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Vietnam ($X) and China ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 47% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Taiwan (Chinese) and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 46%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +35.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
