The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 6.6%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2021, and then declined in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, overseas shipments of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas decreased by -19.6% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports saw a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mandarin and clementine exports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X tons) was the key exporter of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas, committing 65% of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Australia (7.6%). Hong Kong SAR (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of -2.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+8.4%) and Australia (+7.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Pakistan (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Australia (+4.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Pakistan (-6.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest mandarin and clementine supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with an 11% share.

In China, mandarin and clementine exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (+7.4% per year) and Pakistan (-2.7% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, waning by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mandarin and clementine imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Vietnam (X tons) was the main importer of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas, generating 27% of total imports. Afghanistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and China (X tons). All these countries together held near 55% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mandarin and clementine imports into Vietnam stood at +2.5%. At the same time, China (+20.2%) and the Philippines (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas in Asia-Pacific, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Vietnam stood at +11.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-4.5% per year) and Thailand (-1.9% per year).
