The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China represented the key exporter of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 52% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together generating a 38% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Japan (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates. At the same time, the Philippines (+193.9%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+33.7%), India (+17.9%), Vietnam (+17.7%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+4.8%) and Japan (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. India (+12 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.6 p.p.), Vietnam (+3.4 p.p.), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+2 p.p.) and the Philippines (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while China saw its share reduced by -18.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to -2.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+16.5% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+9.9% per year).

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

In 2021, purchases abroad of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates decreased by -8.5% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 38%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 40%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

China (X tons) and Japan (X tons) represented the major importers of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates in 2021, accounting for near 20% and 20% of total imports, respectively.
