The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 28%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Thailand (X tons) represented the largest exporter of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, comprising 41% of total exports. India (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by Pakistan (14%) and China (5.3%). The following exporters - Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest mango and mangosteen supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with an 8.8% share.

In Thailand, mango and mangosteen exports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+2.8% per year) and Pakistan (+9.3% per year).

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mango and mangosteen export price decreased by -1.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 19%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, when their volume increased by 5.9% to X tons. In general, imports recorded measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 56%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

China prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 60% of total imports in 2022. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) took a 9.1% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (6%) and South Korea (4.9%). Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Nepal (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons), Brunei Darussalam (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mango and mangosteen imports into China stood at +8.5%. At the same time, Brunei Darussalam (+28.7%), South Korea (+23.0%), Thailand (+19.5%), Nepal (+15.8%), Afghanistan (+8.3%), Malaysia (+3.1%) and Singapore (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brunei Darussalam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +28.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Japan (-2.3%), Vietnam (-5.5%) and Hong Kong SAR (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, South Korea, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam and Nepal increased by +19, +3.9, +3.2, +1.7 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in Asia-Pacific, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +12.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+3.3% per year) and South Korea (+22.7% per year).
