From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +1.2%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average camel and other animal meat yield reached X tons per head in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against 2021 figures. The yield indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, camel and other animal meat yield increased by +2.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 25%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per head in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The global number of animals slaughtered for camel and other animal meat production reduced modestly to X heads in 2022, waning by -1.6% against 2021. Overall, the number of producing animals recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the number of producing animals increased by 5.7%. Over the period under review, this number attained the peak level at X heads in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, producing animals failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the amount of meat of camels and other animals exported in Asia-Pacific skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 31% against the year before. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +73.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
New Zealand represented the major exporter of meat of camels and other animals in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 57% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), China (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Australia (X tons), together constituting a 41% share of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to camel and other animal meat exports from New Zealand stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Pakistan (+19.2%), Vietnam (+6.9%) and China (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +19.2% from 2012-2022. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Australia (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of New Zealand and Vietnam increased by +7.7 and +5.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) remains the largest camel and other animal meat supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in New Zealand stood at +1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+11.2% per year) and China (+8.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +84.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Hong Kong SAR (X tons) represented the main importer of meat of camels and other animals, mixing up 47% of total imports. China (X tons) held a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Japan (5.1%) and Macao SAR (4.8%). South Korea (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Papua New Guinea (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +34.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 83% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +40.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Papua New Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Macao SAR (+9.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
