Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) took a 6.7% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Hong Kong SAR (6%) and South Korea (4.5%). India (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+15.5%), India (+6.0%) and the Philippines (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +15.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-1.0%), Hong Kong SAR (-1.9%) and South Korea (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+11 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Korea (-3.4 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.8 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-4.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest narrow woven fabric supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +7.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+1.4% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+0.8% per year).

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 9.4%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The purchases of the twelve major importers of narrow woven fabrics, namely Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR, Myanmar, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, China, Japan and the Philippines, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Bangladesh ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 45% of total imports. Indonesia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, India, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +13.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 6.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
