Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, natural cork imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) represented roughly 62% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), comprising an 8.9% share of total imports. The following importers - Japan (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), China (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons), Australia (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - together made up 22% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +45.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 55% of total imports. Japan, Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan and Afghanistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Australia, with a CAGR of +45.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, falling by -13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
