Non-Medical X-Ray Market Size in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, the Asia-Pacific non-medical x-ray market decreased by -14% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a strong increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Non-Medical X-Ray Production in Asia-Pacific
In value terms, non-medical x-ray production reduced markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 117%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then fell sharply in the following year.

Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, overseas shipments of non-medical x-rays increased by 33% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 39%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) represented the major exporter of non-medical x-rays, comprising 42% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Japan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and South Korea (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 53% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Singapore (with a CAGR of +23.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-medical x-ray supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), Japan ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 78% share of total exports. Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +24.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -12.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 20%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Non-Medical X-Ray Imports
Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, the amount of non-medical x-rays imported in Asia-Pacific expanded notably to X tons, picking up by 9.7% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +84.2% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 29%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) represented the major importer of non-medical x-rays, achieving 31% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) took a 9.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (8.3%), Hong Kong SAR (6.6%), South Korea (6.5%), Malaysia (5.7%), Vietnam (5.7%), Japan (5.6%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (5.3%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-medical x-ray imports into China stood at +5.1%. At the same time, India (+16.7%), Hong Kong SAR (+16.1%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+15.1%), Vietnam (+14.0%), Thailand (+7.7%), Malaysia (+6.7%), South Korea (+3.2%) and Japan (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan (Chinese) and Vietnam increased by +4.5, +3.4, +2.6 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-medical x-rays in Asia-Pacific, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +5.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+4.4% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+9.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 7.8%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
