The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-wheat flour exports amounted to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Thailand (X tons) represented the key exporter of non-wheat flours, mixing up 64% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together mixing up a 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Australia (X tons), New Zealand (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-wheat flour exports from Thailand stood at +2.6%. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+28.5%), Vietnam (+27.5%), New Zealand (+16.9%), Australia (+16.5%) and India (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +28.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+4 p.p.), Australia (+1.9 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand and Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -1.6% and -2.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest non-wheat flour supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand amounted to +2.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+7.2% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+1.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -2.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 10%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of non-wheat flours imported in Asia-Pacific was estimated at X tons, leveling off at the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -5.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Australia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the largest importers of non-wheat flours, together making up 75% of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Singapore (X tons), New Zealand (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +42.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-wheat flour importing markets in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), Malaysia ($X) and the Philippines ($X), together accounting for 46% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR, Australia, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese), New Zealand, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 48%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +40.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
