In value terms, optical fiber and bundle production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +8.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Asia-Pacific
For the third consecutive year, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in overseas shipments of optical fibers and bundles, which increased by 52% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 131% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, optical fiber and bundle exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate buoyant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
India represented the key exporter of optical fibers and bundles in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 68% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), making up a 25% share of total exports. Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from India increased at an average annual rate of +19.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, China (+31.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +31.4% from 2012-2022. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. China (+17 p.p.) and India (+14 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Japan saw its share reduced by -12.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the largest optical fiber and bundle supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), India ($X) and Japan ($X), together accounting for 88% of total exports.
China, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 25%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (-1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Optical Fibers and Bundles
Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2022, supplies from abroad of optical fibers and bundles increased by 26% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +104.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 62% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, optical fiber and bundle imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) represented the key importer of optical fibers and bundles, constituting 36% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Australia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), China (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and South Korea (X tons), together committing a 43% share of total imports. Malaysia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to optical fiber and bundle imports into India stood at +10.3%. At the same time, Myanmar (+37.5%), Thailand (+29.7%), Australia (+20.5%), Bangladesh (+19.9%), Vietnam (+12.2%), South Korea (+9.7%), Indonesia (+2.3%) and Singapore (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +37.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-4.5%), Malaysia (-4.6%) and China (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of India, Thailand, Australia, Myanmar, South Korea and Vietnam increased by +16, +8.9, +8, +3.4, +2.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported optical fibers and bundles in Asia-Pacific, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at -2.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+11.0% per year) and South Korea (+4.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, waning by -12.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
