The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 25%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +79.3% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 36% of total exports. South Korea (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by India (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Japan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 53% share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the organic surface active agents exports, with a CAGR of +11.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+8.3%), Malaysia (+7.9%), South Korea (+6.5%), India (+5.9%), Singapore (+5.0%) and Japan (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. China (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore and Japan saw its share reduced by -1.6% and -3.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In China, organic surface active agent exports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+0.6% per year) and South Korea (+6.4% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The following importers - South Korea (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bangladesh (+8.7%), the Philippines (+8.2%), India (+7.8%), Pakistan (+7.2%), Indonesia (+7.0%), South Korea (+4.8%), Malaysia (+4.3%), Vietnam (+3.8%), Japan (+3.5%), Thailand (+3.2%) and Singapore (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012-2021. Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Bangladesh and Indonesia increased by +1.6 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +3.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+3.4% per year) and Vietnam (+7.4% per year).
