From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pineapple juice (single strength) exports rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Nepal represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 46% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) took an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (14%) and Malaysia (8.4%). The following exporters - Australia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - each finished at an 8.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to pineapple juice (single strength) exports from Nepal stood at +1.1%. At the same time, Vietnam (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +7.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-5.0%), Australia (-14.8%), Thailand (-15.2%), Indonesia (-26.0%) and the Philippines (-39.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nepal, Vietnam and Malaysia increased by +37, +13 and +5.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nepal ($X) remains the largest pineapple juice (single strength) supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 18% share.
In Nepal, pineapple juice (single strength) exports plunged by an average annual rate of -2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (-11.9% per year) and Vietnam (+9.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of pineapple juice (single strength) decreased by -8.9% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after eight years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pineapple juice (single strength) imports amounted to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 64%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
China dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2021. Japan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 7.8% share, followed by Australia (5.2%). Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Singapore (X tons), South Korea (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Maldives (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to pineapple juice (single strength) imports into China stood at +27.4%. At the same time, the Philippines (+49.2%), Hong Kong SAR (+13.9%), Maldives (+9.5%) and Japan (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +49.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Australia (-3.1%), New Zealand (-5.3%), South Korea (-6.9%) and Singapore (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+45 p.p.), the Philippines (+2.5 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Japan, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea and Singapore saw its share reduced by -3.7%, -4%, -7.7%, -8.8% and -14.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pineapple juice (single strength) in Asia-Pacific, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +28.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+5.4% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+23.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Maldives ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
