For the third year in a row, Asia-Pacific recorded decline in overseas shipments of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks), which decreased by -4% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, shaving preparations exports amounted to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 27%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Thailand (X tons) represented the major exporter of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks), comprising 45% of total exports. China (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 19% share, followed by Australia (12%), Singapore (8.2%) and India (7%). The following exporters - Vietnam (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) - each accounted for a 6.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to shaving preparations exports from Thailand stood at +13.9%. At the same time, Singapore (+15.6%), Australia (+11.7%) and Vietnam (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, China (-7.8%), India (-8.5%) and Hong Kong SAR (-18.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+31 p.p.), Australia (+7.8 p.p.), Singapore (+6 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-8.4 p.p.), Hong Kong SAR (-15.7 p.p.) and China (-19.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest shaving preparations supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand totaled +11.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (+9.1% per year) and China (-4.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) decreased by -0.8% to X tons, falling for the sixth year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 8.4% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, shaving preparations imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 6.7%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Japan represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 34% of total imports. South Korea (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Australia (13%), China (6.1%) and Singapore (5.5%). New Zealand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), India (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to shaving preparations imports into Japan stood at +3.4%. At the same time, Vietnam (+27.3%) and South Korea (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +27.3% from 2012-2021. Taiwan (Chinese) and Pakistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-2.1%), Singapore (-2.8%), New Zealand (-3.1%), India (-4.3%), Australia (-4.8%), Bangladesh (-5.7%), China (-8.1%) and Hong Kong SAR (-18.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Japan (+13 p.p.), South Korea (+7.6 p.p.) and Vietnam (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Australia (-3.6 p.p.), China (-4.7 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-12.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest shaving preparations importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Japan ($X), South Korea ($X) and Australia ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. China, Singapore, New Zealand, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR, India, Taiwan (Chinese), Bangladesh, Malaysia and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +26.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 5.4% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
