In 2021, the amount of provitamins and vitamins exported in Asia-Pacific reached X tons, growing by 3.4% on the year before. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +78.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, vitamin exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +18.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), mixing up a 5.7% share of total exports. The following exporters - Singapore (X tons) and Australia (X tons) - together made up 4.5% of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Australia (+14.2%) and India (+9.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Australia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +14.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+5.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore saw its share reduced by -4.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest vitamin supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with a 7.4% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +7.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (+18.2% per year) and India (+11.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 5.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 40%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, purchases abroad of provitamins and vitamins increased by 1.3% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 13%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, vitamin imports stood at $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +9.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Singapore (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Thailand (X tons), India (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), China (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 89% of total imports in 2021.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Singapore ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 32% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Australia and Malaysia, which together accounted for a further 56%.
Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +12.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
