The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were China (X tons), India (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons), with a combined 84% share of total production. Indonesia, Pakistan, South Korea, the Philippines and Sri Lanka lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +7.9%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average yield of pumpkin (squash and gourds) in Asia-Pacific shrank to X tons per ha, standing approx. at the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 0.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 24%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pumpkin exports amounted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +93.7% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, New Zealand (X tons) was the major exporter of pumpkin (squash and gourds), constituting 59% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by China (7.6%), Myanmar (6.6%) and India (6.5%). Bangladesh (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

New Zealand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of pumpkin (squash and gourds). At the same time, Myanmar (+117.8%), Bangladesh (+29.8%) and India (+27.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +117.8% from 2012-2022. In New Zealand, pumpkin exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+48.7% per year) and China (+6.4% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pumpkin imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 7.3%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Japan (X tons) represented the largest importer of pumpkin (squash and gourds), constituting 51% of total imports. Singapore (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 21% share, followed by South Korea (12%) and China (8%). By contrast, South Korea (-2.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+6.6 p.p.) and Singapore (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Japan (-13.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pumpkin (squash and gourds) in Asia-Pacific, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 12% share.
