Exports by Country
India dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 85% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Australia (X tons), comprising a 7.2% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the quinoa exports, with a CAGR of +87.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Singapore (+55.1%), Hong Kong SAR (+53.9%) and Australia (+22.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India, Singapore and Hong Kong SAR increased by +85, +3.4 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest quinoa supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India amounted to +107.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (+20.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+47.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -7.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+10.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Quinoa Imports
Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, quinoa imports in Asia-Pacific expanded rapidly to X tons, surging by 14% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 94%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, quinoa imports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 153%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) and Australia (X tons) represented the largest importers of quinoa in Asia-Pacific, together generating 64% of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.8% share, followed by Japan (5.2%) and Hong Kong SAR (4.5%). The following importers - Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons) - together made up 9.5% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +216.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Australia ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 64% share of total imports. Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
Sri Lanka, with a CAGR of +227.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -12.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 53%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
