In 2021, overseas purchases of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles increased by 18% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 33%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, India (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) was the key importer of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles in Asia-Pacific, committing 59% of total import. Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +19.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
