Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +46.9% against 2014 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, safety headgear exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +86.7% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China prevails in exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 85% of total exports in 2021. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), India (X units), Japan (X units) and Vietnam (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to safety headgear exports from China stood at +5.9%. At the same time, Vietnam (+18.3%), India (+10.3%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.2%) and Japan (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +18.3% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China increased by +2.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest safety headgear supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 3.9% share.

In China, safety headgear exports increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+6.8% per year) and Vietnam (+17.6% per year).

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 21% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in purchases abroad of safety headgear, which increased by 10% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 16%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, safety headgear imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +129.8% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Philippines (X units) was the key importer of safety headgear, generating 33% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Japan (X units), Australia (X units), South Korea (X units), Singapore (X units) and Thailand (X units), together constituting a 36% share of total imports. The following importers - Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), Indonesia (X units), Vietnam (X units), Malaysia (X units), Nepal (X units), India (X units) and Bangladesh (X units) - together made up 21% of total imports.

Imports into the Philippines increased at an average annual rate of +21.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nepal (+32.3%), Malaysia (+29.5%), Thailand (+27.2%), Vietnam (+25.3%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+21.8%), India (+16.7%), Bangladesh (+15.8%), South Korea (+13.1%), Indonesia (+4.9%), Singapore (+4.7%) and Australia (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +32.3% from 2012-2021. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The Philippines (+20 p.p.), Thailand (+3.8 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.6 p.p.), Vietnam (+2.4 p.p.), Malaysia (+2.2 p.p.), Nepal (+2 p.p.) and South Korea (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and Japan saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -2.6%, -6% and -13.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Australia ($X), Japan ($X) and the Philippines ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 42% share of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal and India, which together accounted for a further 35%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Nepal, with a CAGR of +27.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
