New Zealand (X units), the Philippines (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), Singapore (X units), Japan (X units) and India (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Bangladesh was also the fastest-growing in terms of the self-propelled coal or rock cutters and tunnelling machinery imports, with a CAGR of +54.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+36.7%), Japan (+25.2%), Vietnam (+22.9%), South Korea (+22.1%), New Zealand (+4.9%) and the Philippines (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, India (-2.2%), Singapore (-5.1%) and Indonesia (-13.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X), Malaysia ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 49% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Taiwan (Chinese), Bangladesh, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and New Zealand, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +38.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, waning by -44.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 42% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
