In 2021, the Asia-Pacific semiconductor device market increased by 11% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Semiconductor Device Production in Asia-Pacific
In value terms, semiconductor device production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Semiconductor Device Exports
Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, the amount of semiconductor devices exported in Asia-Pacific surged to X units, jumping by 18% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, semiconductor device exports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 16%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China represented the largest exporter of semiconductor devices in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was approx. 52% of total exports in 2021. The Philippines (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X units). All these countries together took approx. 29% share of total exports. Thailand (X units), Malaysia (X units), Australia (X units) and South Korea (X units) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+53.0%), Australia (+36.3%), South Korea (+28.9%) and Malaysia (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +53.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-3.1%) and the Philippines (-12.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Thailand, Australia, South Korea and Malaysia increased by +24, +4.1, +3.6, +2.5 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest semiconductor device supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), the Philippines ($X) and South Korea ($X), together comprising 59% of total exports. Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
Thailand, with a CAGR of +20.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -13.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 17%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while Australia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, the amount of semiconductor devices imported in Asia-Pacific surged to X units, increasing by 48% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 50%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, semiconductor device imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The Philippines dominates imports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 62% of total imports in 2021. Hong Kong SAR (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X units) and Indonesia (X units). All these countries together took near 18% share of total imports. Singapore (X units), South Korea (X units), Malaysia (X units), China (X units) and India (X units) took a little share of total imports.
The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the semiconductor devices imports, with a CAGR of +53.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+25.3%), Indonesia (+12.4%), India (+11.9%), South Korea (+8.5%), Singapore (+4.3%), China (+2.5%) and Malaysia (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Philippines (+58 p.p.) and Thailand (+3.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of South Korea (-1.7 p.p.), China (-4.1 p.p.), Singapore (-4.6 p.p.), Malaysia (-5.5 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-33.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X), Singapore ($X) and the Philippines ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 58% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +22.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -24.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
