The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +34.5% against 2018 indices. For the fifth year in a row, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in overseas shipments of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs), which increased by 29% to X units in 2021. In general, exports saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 163%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, semiconductor LED exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Thailand (X units) was the largest exporter of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs), mixing up 60% of total exports. It was distantly followed by China (X units), achieving a 36% share of total exports. Japan (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +132.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 1.5%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while China stood at $X per unit.

All these countries together took near 14% share of total imports. The following importers - Hong Kong SAR (X units) and Australia (X units) - each recorded a 7.8% share of total imports.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) imports, with a CAGR of +75.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+38.5%), India (+32.7%), Australia (+12.4%) and Japan (+11.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Thailand (+65 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-1.5 p.p.), Australia (-15.4 p.p.) and Japan (-26.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest semiconductor LED importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Hong Kong SAR ($X), India ($X) and Japan ($X), together comprising 37% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, India, with a CAGR of +19.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a precipitous descent. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while Australia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
