Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +20.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Japan (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and South Korea (X tons), together comprising a 32% share of total exports. The following exporters - India (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) - together made up 9.5% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to silicone exports from China stood at +16.3%. At the same time, Vietnam (+78.5%), Thailand (+6.8%), India (+6.6%) and Japan (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +78.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-1.8%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.6%) and Hong Kong SAR (-9.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Vietnam increased by +27 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively. In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +67.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the key importers of silicones (in primary forms) in 2021, accounting for near 23% and 22% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together generating a 36% share of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 20% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
