In 2021, overseas shipments of caustic soda in the solid form decreased by -20.8% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 40%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of caustic soda in the solid form dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of caustic soda in solid form attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

China was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 58% of total exports. India (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 37% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to caustic soda in the solid form exports from China stood at -2.8%. At the same time, India (+10.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 88% share of total exports.

India, with a CAGR of +6.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Thailand ($X per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (-1.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of caustic soda in the solid form imported in Asia-Pacific totaled X tons, with an increase of 1.9% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of caustic soda in solid form attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest caustic soda in the solid form importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Vietnam ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 45% of total imports. The Philippines, China, South Korea, Malaysia, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Japan and Nepal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

Among the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +13.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, rising by 4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
