Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +123.3% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, sorbitol imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +16.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Malaysia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Sri Lanka (X tons) and Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +63.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest sorbitol importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Bangladesh ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Pakistan, South Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan (Chinese), Myanmar, Japan and Sri Lanka, which together accounted for a further 46%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +60.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, surging by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
