The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.2% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Australia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), South Korea (X tons), India (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons) represented roughly 68% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), committing a 4.6% share of total imports. Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +50.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Australia ($X), the Philippines ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 40% share of total imports. Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 49%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +56.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 19% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
