The Asia-Pacific t-shirt market soared to $X in 2022, rising by 90% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a abrupt setback. In 2022, approx. X units of t-shirts were exported in Asia-Pacific; dropping by -13.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 324% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, t-shirt exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

China (X units), Bangladesh (X units) and India (X units) represented roughly 83% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Vietnam (X units), Pakistan (X units), Thailand (X units) and Cambodia (X units) - together made up 12% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest t-shirt supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and India ($X), together comprising 74% of total exports. Vietnam, Pakistan, Cambodia and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +11.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2022, jumping by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a deep setback. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-6.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

For the third year in a row, Asia-Pacific recorded decline in overseas purchases of t-shirts, which decreased by -9.6% to X units in 2022. In general, imports showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 14%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, t-shirt imports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 10%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, South Korea (X units) and Japan (X units) represented the major importers of t-shirts in Asia-Pacific, together generating 43% of total imports. Australia (X units) took an 8.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (8.1%) and Hong Kong SAR (7%). The following importers - Malaysia (X units), China (X units), Singapore (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), New Zealand (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Thailand (X units) - together made up 19% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +34.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest t-shirt importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Japan ($X), South Korea ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. China, Australia, India, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

India, with a CAGR of +18.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
