China was the key exporter of telephone apparatus in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 71% of total exports in 2021. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +15.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-2.3%) and South Korea (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+20 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Korea (-4.5 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-12.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest telephone apparatus supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to +5.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+4.2% per year) and Vietnam (+19.9% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. In 2021, supplies from abroad of telephone apparatus increased by 16% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, telephone apparatus imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), distantly followed by South Korea (X tons), India (X tons), China (X tons), Japan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented the major importers of telephone apparatus, together constituting 80% of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, South Korea, India, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 28%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +14.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 13%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
