China represented the main exporter of telephones and videophones in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 42% of total exports in 2022. India (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by Hong Kong SAR (11%), Malaysia (10%) and Vietnam (5.2%). Thailand (X units) and Singapore (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of -10.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, India (+26.0%) and Malaysia (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +26.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Thailand (-4.5%), Vietnam (-10.3%), Hong Kong SAR (-13.2%) and Singapore (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of India and Malaysia increased by +20 and +6.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest telephone supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were India ($X), China ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising 63% of total exports.
India, with a CAGR of +22.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 40% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
After nine years of decline, supplies from abroad of telephones and videophones increased by 36% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, telephone imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 5.7%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X units) was the largest importer of telephones and videophones, creating 47% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Japan (X units) and Thailand (X units). All these countries together held near 28% share of total imports. Singapore (X units), Australia (X units), Afghanistan (X units), Malaysia (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), South Korea (X units) and Myanmar (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to telephone imports into India stood at +13.0%. At the same time, Afghanistan (+42.3%), Myanmar (+14.5%) and Thailand (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Afghanistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +42.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Japan (-2.9%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-5.6%), Australia (-9.4%), South Korea (-10.4%), Malaysia (-10.6%), Singapore (-11.0%) and Hong Kong SAR (-20.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of India, Thailand, Afghanistan and Japan increased by +40, +4.7, +3.3 and +3.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X), Japan ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 44% share of total imports. Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar and Afghanistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.
Among the main importing countries, Afghanistan, with a CAGR of +15.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -23.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per unit), while Afghanistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
