In 2022, overseas shipments of television receivers decreased by -8.1% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 18%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, television receiver exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

China dominates exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 79% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), making up a 7.9% share of total exports. The following exporters - Thailand (X units), Indonesia (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), the Philippines (X units) and Malaysia (X units) - each accounted for a 10% share of total exports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of television receivers. At the same time, the Philippines (+148.4%), Vietnam (+25.4%) and Thailand (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +148.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Indonesia (-5.9%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-6.7%) and Malaysia (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+7.1 p.p.), China (+6.2 p.p.) and the Philippines (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Indonesia (-1.9 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.1 p.p.) and Malaysia (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest television receiver supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with an 8.4% share.

In China, television receiver exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+30.3% per year) and Indonesia (+4.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, waning by -10.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+10.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

Television receiver imports shrank dramatically to X units in 2022, declining by -31.3% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, television receiver imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, Japan (X units), South Korea (X units), India (X units), Hong Kong SAR (X units), Thailand (X units) and Australia (X units) was the key importer of television receivers in Asia-Pacific, mixing up 71% of total import. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X units), making up a 4.7% share of total imports. Vietnam (X units), the Philippines (X units), Malaysia (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) and Indonesia (X units) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest television receiver importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Japan ($X), Australia ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 59% of total imports. Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, India and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +17.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Import price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, television receiver import price increased by +100.7% against 2016 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
