The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, toothpaste exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +71.4% against 2012 indices. China was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 56% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons) and India (X tons), together constituting a 27% share of total exports. Japan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Japan (+34.2%), South Korea (+12.8%), India (+5.0%) and Thailand (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +34.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Vietnam (-1.4%) and Indonesia (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Japan increased by +9.8 and +3.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), Thailand ($X) and Japan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 71% share of total exports.

Japan, with a CAGR of +23.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Japan (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, toothpaste import price increased by +54.8% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
