The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -32.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was approx. 82% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Japan (X units), achieving a 6.1% share of total exports. The following exporters - Thailand (X units), South Korea (X units) and Papua New Guinea (X units) - together made up 8.1% of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+38.3%), Papua New Guinea (+14.6%) and Japan (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +38.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Thailand increased by +10 and +3.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest transporter and bridge cranes supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+2.2% per year) and Thailand (+30.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Papua New Guinea ($X per unit), while South Korea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Papua New Guinea (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes, when their volume increased by 19% to X units. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Singapore (X units), distantly followed by South Korea (X units), India (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Indonesia (X units) represented the main importers of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes, together committing 80% of total imports. The following importers - Thailand (X units), Malaysia (X units), Australia (X units), the Philippines (X units), Bangladesh (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +9.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
