Exports by Country
China represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 57% of total exports. South Korea (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by India (8.9%) and Japan (7.2%). Vietnam (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to iron or steel pipe and tube exports from China stood at -2.7%. At the same time, Vietnam (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +4.2% from 2012-2021. Thailand and Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest iron or steel pipe and tube supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with an 11% share.
In China, exports of tubes, pipes and hollow profiles (of iron or steel) remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (-10.2% per year) and South Korea (-4.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 24% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, purchases abroad of tubes, pipes and hollow profiles (of iron or steel) increased by 0.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of tubes, pipes and hollow profiles (of iron or steel) totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the twelve major importers of tubes, pipes and hollow profiles (of iron or steel), namely Australia, India, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan (Chinese), represented more than two-thirds of total import. Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +18.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 33% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong SAR and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 53%.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +13.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+0.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
