The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +70.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, China (X tons) represented the main exporter of uncoated filter paper and paperboard, constituting 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X tons), committing a 16% share of total exports. Japan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the uncoated filter paper and paperboard exports, with a CAGR of +9.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Korea (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Japan (-7.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China increased by +23 percentage points.

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X tons of uncoated filter paper and paperboard were imported in Asia-Pacific; shrinking by -23% on 2021 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated filter paper imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 11%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented the largest importers of uncoated filter paper and paperboard in Asia-Pacific, together resulting at near 50% of total imports. India (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Malaysia (5.5%) and Japan (5.5%). Australia (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Singapore (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +31.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and India ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 56% share of total imports. South Korea, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +34.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
