Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, orange juice (single strength) exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 13%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Thailand was the main exporter of orange juice (single strength) in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 45% of total exports in 2021. Australia (X tons) took a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by China (7.5%), Myanmar (5.8%) and New Zealand (4.5%). The following exporters - South Korea (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - together made up 7% of total exports.
Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +26.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+46.4%), Myanmar (+39.6%), New Zealand (+28.5%) and South Korea (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +46.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, China (-5.2%) and Australia (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand, Myanmar, New Zealand and Indonesia increased by +38, +5.4, +3.9 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Australia ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 69% share of total exports. New Zealand, South Korea, Myanmar and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
Indonesia, with a CAGR of +49.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, rising by 8.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of orange juice (single strength) increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 32%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, orange juice (single strength) imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) was the largest importer of orange juice (single strength), committing 55% of total imports. Japan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by South Korea (8.7%) and Singapore (5.3%). Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and New Caledonia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to orange juice (single strength) imports into China stood at +31.3%. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+32.3%) and South Korea (+18.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +32.3% from 2012-2021. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, New Caledonia (-1.4%), Singapore (-6.3%) and Hong Kong SAR (-12.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+48 p.p.), South Korea (+5.7 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Japan (-5.7 p.p.), Singapore (-9.2 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-10.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported orange juice (single strength) in Asia-Pacific, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 9.9% share.
In China, orange juice (single strength) imports increased at an average annual rate of +26.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+1.0% per year) and South Korea (+15.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, surging by 1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 5.6% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
