Preservative-Treated Rough Wood Market Size in Asia-Pacific
The Asia-Pacific preservative-treated rough wood market rose to $X in 2021, with an increase of 3.6% against the previous year. In 2021, preservative-treated rough wood exports in Asia-Pacific surged to X cubic meters, picking up by 46% on 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, faced a sharp decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 152%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 137% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, New Zealand (X cubic meters) represented the key exporter of preservative-treated rough wood, mixing up 57% of total exports. Australia (X cubic meters) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic (6.1%) and China (6%). The following exporters - Vietnam (X cubic meters), Myanmar (X cubic meters) and Japan (X cubic meters) - each finished at a 12% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to preservative-treated rough wood exports from New Zealand stood at +20.2%. At the same time, Vietnam (+24.8%) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +24.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-9.7%), Australia (-9.9%), Myanmar (-14.4%) and China (-19.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of New Zealand, Australia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Vietnam, China, Japan and Myanmar increased by +57, +12, +5.9, +4.3, +4.1, +3.1 and +3.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) emerged as the largest preservative-treated rough wood supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 13% share.
In New Zealand, preservative-treated rough wood exports expanded at an average annual rate of +21.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (-9.3% per year) and China (-9.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, picking up by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 75% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per cubic meter), while Vietnam ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+12.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preservative-Treated Rough Wood Imports
Imports in Asia-Pacific
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of preservative-treated rough wood increased by 2.4% to X cubic meters in 2021. In general, imports saw noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 79%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China was the main importing country with an import of around X cubic meters, which resulted at 68% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X cubic meters), comprising an 18% share of total imports. New Zealand (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to preservative-treated rough wood imports into China stood at +6.4%. At the same time, New Zealand (+7.3%) and Vietnam (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +7.3% from 2012-2021. China (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported preservative-treated rough wood in Asia-Pacific, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to +7.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (-1.3% per year) and New Zealand (+2.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per cubic meter, rising by 8.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced descent. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per cubic meter), while Vietnam ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
