Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +66.0% against 2012 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The biggest shipments were from Japan (X tons), India (X tons) and China (X tons), together amounting to 56% of total export. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by South Korea (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons). All these countries together held near 32% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and India ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, India, with a CAGR of +15.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, approx. X tons of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard were imported in Asia-Pacific; with an increase of 7.9% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 16%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, wrapping papers imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
China represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 37% of total imports. India (X tons) held a 9.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by South Korea (7%), Vietnam (6.4%), Indonesia (5.9%), Malaysia (5.5%), Thailand (4.9%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (4.8%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wrapping papers imports into China stood at +10.5%. At the same time, Vietnam (+11.5%), India (+6.3%), South Korea (+3.1%) and Thailand (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012-2021. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.3%) and Malaysia (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Vietnam and India increased by +16, +3 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard in Asia-Pacific, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +6.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+5.2% per year) and South Korea (+2.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight decrease. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in South Korea ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
