Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +61.5% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 79% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Turkey (X tons), South Korea (X tons), India (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - together made up 18% of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+25.5%), Turkey (+6.3%), India (+6.2%), South Korea (+2.9%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +25.5% from 2012-2021. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China increased by +4.5 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest lock and key supplier in Asia, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 6.7% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 4.5% share.

Based on 2021 figures, lock and key export price increased by +8.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +13.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 4.8% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
