Papaya Market Size in Asia

The Asian papaya market fell slightly to $X in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 15%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, papaya exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 27%. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest papaya supplying countries in Asia were China ($X), Sri Lanka ($X) and the Philippines ($X), together accounting for 59% of total exports. Malaysia, Thailand and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +18.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, the largest papaya importing markets in Asia were Singapore ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X), together comprising 54% of total imports. Qatar, China, Bahrain and Brunei Darussalam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +23.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 4.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Brunei Darussalam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
