After four years of growth, the Asian peach and nectarine market decreased by -2.6% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +62.1% against 2012 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
Peach And Nectarine Production in Asia
In value terms, peach and nectarine production fell slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +81.8% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 24%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.
China (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of peach and nectarine production, accounting for 83% of total volume. Moreover, peach and nectarine production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Turkey (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume in China totaled +3.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+3.9% per year) and Iran (-1.0% per year).
The average peach and nectarine yield fell to X tons per ha in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 5.8%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The peach and nectarine harvested area stood at X ha in 2021, flattening at the year before. Over the period under review, the harvested area saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of X ha; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Exports in Asia
In 2021, shipments abroad of peaches and nectarines decreased by -10% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a nine-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, peach and nectarine exports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 51%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the major exporter of peaches and nectarines, committing 40% of total exports. China (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Jordan (9%), Uzbekistan (8.2%), Georgia (7.4%), Hong Kong SAR (6.7%) and Azerbaijan (5.5%).
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+59.3%), Georgia (+44.4%) and Azerbaijan (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +59.3% from 2012-2021. China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Jordan (-2.2%) and Uzbekistan (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey, Uzbekistan, Georgia and Hong Kong SAR increased by +15, +8.2, +6.7 and +6.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest peach and nectarine supplier in Asia, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +22.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+3.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+61.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Jordan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+22.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of peaches and nectarines decreased by -13.5% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -14.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 49%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, peach and nectarine imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +74.9% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Iraq (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and China (X tons) represented roughly 58% of total imports in 2021. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons). All these countries together took near 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Kazakhstan (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons), Armenia (X tons), Palestine (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) - together made up 23% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +542.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest peach and nectarine importing markets in Asia were Hong Kong SAR ($X), China ($X) and Iraq ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +440.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 15% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+9.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
