After four years of growth, the Asian peach and nectarine market decreased by -2.6% to $X in 2021. In 2021, shipments abroad of peaches and nectarines decreased by -10% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a nine-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, peach and nectarine exports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 51%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the major exporter of peaches and nectarines, committing 40% of total exports. China (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Jordan (9%), Uzbekistan (8.2%), Georgia (7.4%), Hong Kong SAR (6.7%) and Azerbaijan (5.5%).

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+59.3%), Georgia (+44.4%) and Azerbaijan (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +59.3% from 2012-2021. China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Jordan (-2.2%) and Uzbekistan (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey, Uzbekistan, Georgia and Hong Kong SAR increased by +15, +8.2, +6.7 and +6.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest peach and nectarine supplier in Asia, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +22.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+3.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+61.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of peaches and nectarines decreased by -13.5% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -14.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 49%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, peach and nectarine imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The following importers - Kazakhstan (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons), Armenia (X tons), Palestine (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) - together made up 23% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +542.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest peach and nectarine importing markets in Asia were Hong Kong SAR ($X), China ($X) and Iraq ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports.

China, with a CAGR of +440.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
