The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 102%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, dry peas exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey was the major exporter of peas (dry) in Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 53% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), India (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together constituting a 41% share of total exports. Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dry peas exports from Turkey stood at +22.1%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+252.6%), India (+59.9%), Kazakhstan (+14.0%), Myanmar (+7.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +252.6% from 2012-2021. While the share of Turkey (+19 p.p.), India (+11 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+9.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-2.8 p.p.), Myanmar (-3.8 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-9.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest dry peas supplier in Asia, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with a 9.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at +21.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+16.1% per year) and India (+63.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 26% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of peas (dry), when their volume decreased by -6.2% to X tons. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +10.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main importer of peas (dry), generating 48% of total imports. Pakistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Bangladesh (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and India (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 38% share of total imports. The following importers - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) - each accounted for a 3.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dry peas imports into China stood at +14.1%. At the same time, Nepal (+30.9%), Turkey (+26.8%), Pakistan (+16.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+13.8%) and Bangladesh (+10.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +30.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, India (-19.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey and Nepal increased by +24, +10, +4, +3.9 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Bangladesh ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 75% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, India, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 12%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Nepal, with a CAGR of +33.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 28% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nepal (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
