Piper Pepper Market Size in Asia

After two years of growth, the Asian piper pepper market decreased by -2.9% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. In 2022, exports of piper pepper in Asia dropped to X tons, reducing by -4.8% compared with 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, piper pepper exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Vietnam dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons) and India (X tons), together making up a 15% share of total exports. Sri Lanka (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the piper pepper exports, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012 to 2022. Sri Lanka experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. India (-3.7%), Malaysia (-6.6%) and Indonesia (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Vietnam increased by +28 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.1% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 22%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, piper pepper imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

India (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly 40% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), Japan (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and China (X tons), together creating a 27% share of total imports. South Korea (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Thailand (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Nepal (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nepal (with a CAGR of +20.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest piper pepper importing markets in Asia were India ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Nepal, Turkey, Taiwan (Chinese) and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.

Yemen, with a CAGR of +19.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 28%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
