Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -7.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012-2021. Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, India (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+7.2 p.p.), Turkey (+2.6 p.p.), Vietnam (+2.4 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore and India saw its share reduced by -3.2% and -5.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms in Asia, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +7.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+6.2% per year) and Vietnam (+7.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
