In value terms, polyvinyl chloride production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +56.2% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Exports in Asia
In 2022, shipments abroad of polyvinyl chloride increased by 7.3% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +41.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, polyvinyl chloride exports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 86%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
China was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 38% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together comprising a 52% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +18.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest polyvinyl chloride supplier in Asia, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +20.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.5% per year) and Japan (+7.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -9.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 48%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Indonesia ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in purchases abroad of polyvinyl chloride, when their volume increased by 1.9% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, polyvinyl chloride imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
India was the main importer of polyvinyl chloride in Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 33% of total imports in 2022. Turkey (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by China (8.7%), Vietnam (7.8%) and Bangladesh (6.1%). The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into India increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cambodia (+29.5%), Vietnam (+13.8%), Bangladesh (+10.2%), Malaysia (+4.3%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012-2022. Turkey and Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-2.4%) and China (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+9.6 p.p.), Vietnam (+5.2 p.p.), Bangladesh (+3.3 p.p.) and Cambodia (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Turkey (-1.6 p.p.) and China (-15.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X), Turkey ($X) and China ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 59% of total imports. Vietnam, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +28.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -5.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
