From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, prepared mustard exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. In 2021, the amount of prepared mustard imported in Asia rose rapidly to X tons, increasing by 9.1% compared with 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, prepared mustard imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the major importers of prepared mustard in 2021, accounting for approx. 19% and 19% of total imports, respectively. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by China (7.8%) and Israel (5.8%). In value terms, Japan ($X), South Korea ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 50% of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Hong Kong SAR, Israel, Taiwan (Chinese), Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand, Lebanon, Kazakhstan and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 33%.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +19.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
