The Asian quince market was estimated at $X in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were Turkey (X tons), China (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons), with a combined 73% share of total production. These countries were followed by Iran and Azerbaijan, which together accounted for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +6.0%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2021, the average quince yield in Asia contracted to X tons per ha, flattening at 2020 figures. Overall, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the yield increased by 9.1%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, the harvested area of quinces in Asia reduced to X ha, approximately mirroring 2020. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the harvested area increased by 13%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to quince production reached the peak figure at X ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, exports of quinces in Asia skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 16% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, quince exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 39%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Azerbaijan (X tons), achieving a 4.8% share of total exports. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Syrian Arab Republic (+48.0%) and Azerbaijan (+26.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Syrian Arab Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +48.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Azerbaijan and Syrian Arab Republic increased by +3.5 and +3.2 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest quince supplier in Asia, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 5.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey totaled +8.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Azerbaijan (+24.9% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (+39.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (-0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Quince Imports
Imports in Asia
Quince imports soared to X tons in 2021, surging by 15% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports posted a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
In value terms, quince imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Iraq represented the main importer of quinces in Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 32% of total imports in 2021. Georgia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Israel (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 50% share of total imports. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to quince imports into Iraq stood at +21.7%. At the same time, Oman (+89.9%), the United Arab Emirates (+28.5%), Georgia (+6.8%), Israel (+5.6%), Syrian Arab Republic (+4.5%) and Saudi Arabia (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +89.9% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Iraq, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Georgia increased by +24, +9, +8.1 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest quince importing markets in Asia were Iraq ($X), Israel ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Syrian Arab Republic and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
Oman, with a CAGR of +65.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 4.6%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
