In 2022, overseas shipments of radio receivers for motor vehicles increased by 10% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vehicle radio exports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 26%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which reached 56% of total exports. Thailand (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by India (X units) and Malaysia (X units). All these countries together held near 38% share of total exports. Indonesia (X units) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vehicle radio exports from China stood at +1.8%. At the same time, Indonesia (+23.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +23.9% from 2012-2022. India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Thailand (-3.5%) and Malaysia (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, India and Thailand increased by +27, +3.4 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), China ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 85% of total exports. Indonesia and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.9%.
Among the main exporting countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +40.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 24%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+13.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of radio receivers for motor vehicles increased by 120% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a moderate increase. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vehicle radio imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.1% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
India was the key importer of radio receivers for motor vehicles in Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was approx. 63% of total imports in 2022. Japan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by China (5.2%). The United Arab Emirates (X units), Thailand (X units), Indonesia (X units), Iran (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Malaysia (X units) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vehicle radio imports into India stood at +8.1%. At the same time, Iran (+37.1%), Vietnam (+14.2%), the United Arab Emirates (+11.0%), Japan (+6.8%) and China (+5.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +37.1% from 2012-2022. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.3%) and Thailand (-8.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of India, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Iran increased by +27, +3.8, +2.1 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X), Japan ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 69% of total imports. China, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
Iran, with a CAGR of +34.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, waning by -32.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
